Practice a Pose

The Wonder Tree Pose

This is a balance pose so concentration and focus is needed to be able to grow into a tree and be rooted to the earth.

1. Stand tall with your feet touching. Imagine your toes and feet are the roots of the tree digging down into the ground.

2. Breathe in slowly and push your left foot down (the tree trunk) and lift up your right leg (the lowest branch) and turn your knee out to the side.

Choose your challenge:

Tricky - place your foot against the ankle of your standing foot, forming a triangle (best for young children)

Trickier - press your right foot on the inside of your calf.

Trickiest - press your right foot on the inside of your thigh.

3. Breathe in and bring your palms to your heart. Breathe out and lift up your arm branches to the sky. I wonder what type of tree you are? Choose whether your hands are together or wide apart.

4. Balance in The Wonder Tree pose for 3-10 slow, deep breaths.

5. Repeat on other side.

Timber! Top Tip: If you want to be strong and grounded for as long as possible try staring at the floor a little way in front of you - find your focus point.
